Live at Stanstock 2013

Playlist Summary

The Jury would probably be classified as a Classic Rock band. That suits us fine but it would be missing the significance of the  broad capabilities of a group with horns, multiple keyboards and six singers.

In addition to straightforward rock n roll from the likes of Badfinger (No Matter What), the Rolling Stones (Brown Sugar) and Mitch Ryder (Mustang Sally), it means we can deliver authentic sounding songs from the Beatles studio era (Hello Goodbye, Lady Madonna) to the big horn sounds of Chicago (Beginnings, Question 67 & 68, Dialogue)  and to the jazz infused complexities of Steely Dan (My Old School, Peg, Josie).

How about the R&B vibe of the Temptations (My Girl), Stevie Wonder (Superstition), Earth Wind and Fire (September, Sing a Song) or Sly & the Family Stone (Hot Fun, Dance to the Music)?

Paul Malstrom performing  Journey's "Don't Stop Believing"

The Jury will bring you back to the time in your life when a song might evoke memories of a significant event in your life. The opening piano chords of the Bee Gee's Nights on Broadway might take you back to platform shoes and polyester bell bottoms doing the Pretzel under a disco ball( yes, we too grew up in the worst dressed era in history).

And while we love to stretch ourselves with more complex challenges, we can have fun with what we call...edgy "bubble gum" music...The Monkees (I'm a Believer) and Neil Diamond (Sweet Caroline).

Everyone's a country fan these days...we answer the call with Lynrd Skynrd - OK...more of a rock n roll band, but close enough..Kenny Chesney (No Shoes No Shirt) , Jason Aldean and Darius Rucker (Wagon Wheel) are the real deal.

And back to our roots...there are always fans for Bruce Springsteen (Thunder Road, Rosalita, Tenth Avenue Freezeout).

On occasion we also will bring in guest artists to cover female vocalists including Linda Ronstadt (Heat Wave) and Fleetwood Mac (Rhiannon).

    INFO

The Jury (formerly The Hung Jury) is an ever-evolving band begun in 2012 as a project of keyboardist Norm Stone (Kahuna Brothers, State, Dialogue). Norm borrowed several former bandmates from longtime area band, The Kahuna Brothers (John Guthrie (guitar/vocals), Joe Vitrano (guitar/vocals) and Bob Krieger (Sax/vocals) along with former

front man of Beyond Logic, Paul Malstrom (guitar/vocals) and then added Nashville piano man, Rick O’Hara (Jack Lord’s Hair, Suburban Buddha), to play a broad range of rock, soul and funk, leaning toward the more musically complex arrangements of Chicago and Steely Dan and difficult harmonies from the Bee Gees, Beatles and Beach Boys, among others.  The Jury also has a funky streak, as songs from Stevie Wonder, EWF & AWB, among others, will attest.

The rhythm section is driven by three highly-coveted veterans of the Baltimore-areamusic scene: bassist Bobby Peters (Joy, Tony Sciuto Band), drummer Buzzy London(Legend, Time Will Tell) and when Buzzy – always in demand - is otherwise booked,

the incomparable Carmen Strollo (4 Star Revue, Second Coming, Admirals). Carmen will be playing at Stanstock with both the 4 Star Revue and with The Jury.

The band specializes in music that was played constantly on the radio and in the clubs in the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, but for whatever reason didn’t make the cut on the “Classic Rock” stations of today. This is the music that you’ve always loved, and will be glad to hear again.
